Our approach

Our work rests on a simple conviction: when communities have the knowledge, platforms and support to lead, recovery lasts. Five strategies guide everything we do.

Intervention strategies

Capacity building

  • Vocational and leadership training
  • Compensatory education and empowerment for out-of-school children and adolescents
  • Training educational personnel, engaging parents and communities in supporting education, and providing a protective environment for children

Enabling and supporting community organizations

  • Empowering women-led organizations, supporting local women's initiatives and amplifying women's voices in advocacy and campaigning
  • Long-term learning journeys
  • Technical support for community-based organizations and groups

Networking

  • Women- and youth-led platforms, and networking with local and international actors
  • Developing tools and shared strategies
  • Building understanding and common visions

Advocacy

  • Organizing awareness campaigns, engaging communities in dialogue and connecting local initiatives to national networks
  • Facilitating community dialogue sessions and supporting local recovery initiatives
  • Women- and youth-led platforms for leadership and advocacy

Community participation

  • Community dialogue sessions and locally led recovery initiatives
  • Civic awareness campaigns that connect local initiatives to broader networks
  • Community dialogues and local peacebuilding capacity development

Theory of change

  1. If

    • Communities are equipped with knowledge, skills and safe platforms to express themselves and engage
    • Local actors and grassroots organizations are supported to understand and respond to their context
    • Citizens are aware of their rights and responsibilities and can participate meaningfully in civic life
  2. Then

    • Women and youth will lead initiatives that promote protection, healing and inclusive development
    • Children and adolescents will access education, psychosocial support and opportunities to grow as active contributors to their communities
    • Local organizations will design and implement sustainable interventions rooted in community needs
    • Citizens will engage in civic dialogue, advocate for justice and contribute to peacebuilding efforts
    • Communities will foster appreciation for diversity and build trust through collective action
  3. Resulting in

    • A resilient, inclusive environment where individuals and organizations collaborate to address local challenges
    • Increased civic participation and leadership among marginalized groups
    • Strengthened local systems for protection, education and peacebuilding
    • Communities practicing active citizenship and peaceful coexistence
  4. Ultimately

    • Syrian communities lead their own recovery and build a future rooted in dignity, justice and peace
    • Women play a central role in driving change, strengthening protection systems and leading community-based initiatives that foster peaceful coexistence
    • Citizens actively engage in grassroots peacebuilding, reshaping their communities through inclusive participation

The changes we work toward

Resilient communities led by empowered women and youth

Through psychosocial support and protection services, individuals are equipped to overcome trauma and reclaim agency. These foundations enable long-term resilience and inclusive participation in rebuilding their communities.

Inclusive development rooted in local ownership

By supporting women-led organizations, youth-driven initiatives and community-based structures, EPISA fosters a development model grounded in local ownership, so Syrians, especially women and youth, can design and sustain solutions that reflect their realities and aspirations.

Civic engagement and peacebuilding as everyday practice

Through civic education, human rights awareness and community dialogue, Syrians are empowered to engage in public life, advocate for their rights and contribute to peace processes at local and national levels.

Empowering children and adolescents: investing in the future of society

Children and adolescents are among those most affected by the war. Through compensatory education, psychosocial support and safe, inclusive programming, EPISA brings them back into nurturing spaces that restore their sense of agency and hope.
